OUR BELIEFS

Authority of Scripture: Emmanuel Baptist Church views the Bible as the ultimate authority in shaping a person’s life. It is God’s divinely inspired revelation of Himself to man. The Bible from Genesis to Revelation is inspired by God. It is true, trustworthy, and without error. The entire truth is there for us, no other place or book.

We adhere to the belief Christ came to pay the penalty for our sin on the cross. He rose from the dead and is coming back to take the saints to paradise. That penalty is paid in full, and all who receive Christ as Lord may have it.

Baptism: Baptism is a symbol by which a Christian places his entire faith in Christ. It should occur only when a person has professed Christ as their Savior. Baptism represents the washing away of sins, where the believer is completely immersed in water. This symbolizes the disciples’ own baptism, as stated in John 3. The practice also stems from Romans 6, which says Christians are “buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.”

Communion: The Lord’sLord’s Supper memorializes the death of Christ.

Regeneration Of the Saints: When one receives Jesus Christ as Lord, the Holy Spirit does an internal work to redirect his life, making him born again. This is not merely choosing to “turn over a new leaf” but is a matter of God beginning a life-long process of change. The biblical term for this is “regeneration.”

Salvation by Faith: The only way to get into heaven is salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. To achieve salvation, one must confess faith in God, who sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of humankind.

The Second Coming: God will judge and divide between the saved and the lost. Christ will judge believers, rewarding them for acts done while living on earth.

The Trinity: There is One God manifested in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Heaven and Hell: Heaven and Hell are real. Those who have been saved will live eternally in the presence of God in heaven, and those who die without being saved will go to hell.

Church Authority: Emmanuel Baptist Church is self-governing and operates under Christ’sChrist’s Lordship through democratic processes. Each member is responsible and accountable to Christ, who is the head of the church. Pastors and deacons are the church’s officers.

Equality: We view all people as equal in God’sGod’s eyes but believe the husband or man has authority in the household and the responsibility to protect his family. Both men and women are gifted to serve in the church.

Perseverance: True believers will never fall away or lose their salvation. However, it doesn’t mean the believer won’t stumble, but an inward pull will not allow him to quit the faith.

Sexuality and Marriage: God’s plan for marriage and the sexual union was designed to be “one man, and one woman, for life.” According to God’s Word, homosexuality is a sin.
